Will follow the program already designed for Wednesdays and in addition, will do some translations for some activities eg proverbs originating from carving traditional canoes, making of siapo or tapa cloth and etc.

 

Weekly Program:

  1. Ava Ceremony  ……………………………………………………………………… 10.00am
  2. Cooking traditional food (earth oven)
  3. Climbing coconut tree/cutting leaves
  4. Weaving baskets/mailo (meal plate)
  5. Removal of hot stones of the oven
  6. Food tasting/Lunch …………………………………………………………………… midday…..
  7. Fālō le mā’ona, meaning… stretching of full stomach (one hour)
  8. Making of Siapo or making of tapa cloth …………………………………………….. 1.00pm
  9. Weaving fine mats/sleeping mats/window blinds/coconut leaf roofing
  10. Making of sinnet from a special kind of coconut called, niu’afa.
  11. Making traditional perfume (coconut cream and sweet smelling flowers)
  12. Making of pure chocolate/cocoa drinks
  13. Carving of traditional canoes and making handicraft
  14. Thatching of fale (traditional Samoan house)
  15. Finale of the Day: Taalolo- highest form of presentation of a gift by a paramount chief to another paramount chief on occasions such as chiefly title bestowment, dedication of a house, wedding of a paramount chief’s daughter etc. And the traditional response from the recipient.
  16. The finale includes entertainment as last part.

 

This Special Program runs from 10.00am – 3 or 4pm depending on the level of participation and the energy of attendees.
